Normally Pilates is suitable for all age groups and fitness levels. If you have a condition or injury which can affect your ability to exercise, you should check with your GP before commencing.

Q5 Will Pilates help me to lose weight?

Generally the most successful way to lose weight is by combining exercise with a suitable diet. Pilates helps to tone and strengthen your muscles. It can also improve your posture and energy levels.

Q6 Can I learn Pilates from a book or DVD?

To get the most out of Pilates you are almost always better to find a well trained teacher. Later you could use a book or DVD to compliment your class work.

Q7 What should I wear?

You should wear clothing that allows freedom of movement. A tracksuit bottom and T- shirt, a leotard tank top or shorts are all suitable.

Q8 Do I need to do any other exercise?

You should probably add some cardio vascular exercise to your weekly programme such as swimming or walking.
